Icons Collection
The Icons Collection is a new series that Harley-Davidson® introduced last year. The goal with the series is to celebrate iconic H-D® models of the past by reimagining them through the modern platforms. The first entry into the series was the 2021 Electra Glide Revival, which celebrates the 1969 classic. The second entry is the 2022 Low Rider® El Diablo, which celebrates the legendary Harley-Davidson® FXRT that has become synonymous with the West Coast style of the 1980s. All Icons are limited to 1,500 units and have an engraved badge that indicates their number within the series.
Low Rider® El Diablo
The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Low Rider® El Diablo near Lynn Haven is based on the popular Low Rider® ST and inspired by the 1983 FXRT. The 1983 FXRT is important because it not only embodies the Southern California motorcycle scene of the 1980s but continues to serve as inspiration for custom motorcycles. Each of the 1,500 bikes made will receive a custom and handcrafted paint job by Gunslinger Custom Paint, and the paint job involves three distinct phases and some eyepopping pinstripe work.
Low Riders® vs. Other Cruisers
Low Riders® entered the scene in the 1960s in California when riders began lowering their cruisers as in making them closer to the ground. Aftermarket companies started making lowering kits that made the style more widely available. Harley-Davidson® introduced its first model named the Low Rider® in the 1970s. The current Low Rider® S is based on the Softail platform as all of the brand’s cruiser currently are. With the Harley-Davidson® take on the low rider, there tends to be a greater emphasis on performance then with other cruisers, and all of the Low Rider® models now feature the Milwaukee-Eight® 117 engine.
Low Rider® ST vs. Low Rider® S
The main difference between the Low Rider® ST and the Low Rider® S is that the ST has a frame-mounted fairing whereas the S just has a headlamp cowl that is much smaller than the fairing. The ST also has different handlebars that help to give the bike more of the SoCal vibe.
Low Rider® El Diablo vs. Low Rider® ST
The 2022 Harley-Davidson® Low Rider® El Diablo near Lynn Haven is fundamentally the same bike as the Low Rider® ST. In fact, they use a Low Rider® ST to make the El Diablo. The main difference is that the El Diablo has the limited paint scheme whereas the ST is available in either Vivid Black or Gunship Gray. The El Diablo also comes with the Rockford Fosgate audio system preinstalled in the fairing whereas that is an option for the Low Rider® ST.
