The Special models are premium editions of the standard models that have a more powerful engine and many additional high-end features for a more upscale feel.
Ride Characteristics
Both the Road Glide® Special and Street Glide® Special are touring motorcycles that find a middle ground between stripped down and fully dressed. The biggest difference when comparing the 2023 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® Special vs 2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® Special is that the Road Glide® Special has the shark-nosed fairing, which is a frame-mounted fairing, whereas the Street Glide® Special has the batwing fairing, which is a fork-mounted fairing. Other characteristics are the same, including comfortable two-up seating, upright rider positioning, floorboards, stretched saddlebags, an infotainment system, premium audio and optional advanced rider-assistance technologies.
Performance
Both the 2023 Harley-Davidson® Road Glide® Special and 2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® Special are powered by the Milwaukee-Eight® 114 engine. This is one of the biggest differentiators between the Special models and the standard models, which have the Milwaukee-Eight® 107 engine. The Street Glide® Special is slightly heavier by about 25 pounds and longer by about three quarters of an inch.
Infotainment
The Road Glide® Special and Street Glide® Special are both sold through Harley-Davidson® Of Panama City Beach with the Boom!™ Box GTS infotainment system included as standard equipment. It features a 6.5-inch full color touch screen and dual 5.25-inch 25-watt speakers.
Technologies
Electronic linked braking and anti-lock braking are included standard. You also have the option of the advanced rider assists, which include vehicle hold control and all of the cornering-enhanced features. Note that you must select this option at the time of purchase because it has to be added through the factory and cannot be added to your motorcycle after the fact.
Customization
The design options are the same for both of these models. A chrome finish is standard. A black finish is optional and adds $1,000 to the MSRP. Vivid Black is the standard color and included in the MSRP. Premium options available with the chrome finish are Gray Haze, Baja Orange and Bright Billiard Blue with Billiard Gray. Premium options available with the black finish are Prospect Gold, Atlas Silver Metallic, Industrial Yellow with Vivid Black and Bright Billiard Blue with Billiard Gray. With the black finish, you also have the option of Heirloom Red Fade, which is offered as part of the 120th Anniversary celebration and exclusive to this model year.
